Emotional Intelligence - More important than Intellectual Intelligence

The more I work with young learners, (5-12) the more I see evidence of them being successful or not, in their overall life at school.   Those that can cope with the on-going social life of schools`are the ones that are most successful.
We, the educators, must not forget the importance of teaching our clients the skills and tricks of being savvy in and around people - younger, own age and older.   When they can handle this, their development in all other areas, improve.
It doesn`t just happen for most kids.   It has to be modelled, and explicitly taught.  The kids need to be taught resillience, tenacity and persistence, along with the many other important aspects of education.
I have recently been focussing on finding out more about how to assist the development of EQ in children.

Here is one such resource, entitled, E.Q. in a  box.
